Auvergne and its magnificent puys are known throughout the world. The volcanoes of Haute-Loire called “sucs” are certainly less famous, but they delight geologists and lovers of atypical landscapes. With us, no trace of craters or violent explosions, but all ua myriad of strange rounded-topped volcanoes which gives an infinite softness to the landscapes. Unique impression of observing a giant molehill covered with lush vegetation!

What is a Suc?

The juices are volcanic peaks characteristic of the Velay region and unique in Europe. 14 million years old, these craterless volcanoes erupted viscous lava creating rounded domes. Learn to spot these mountains, peaks and saps thanks to the orientation tables scattered over our territory.

The most beautiful views towards Lac de Grangent 

Here the river continues in meanders and steep hillsides and the views towards the Loire gorges offer exceptional spots in all seasons. The most surprising viewpoints are undoubtedly those overlooking Grangent Island. Formerly perched 50 m above the ground, before the construction of the dam and the raising of the water level, the Grangent castle and chapel now seem to float in the middle of the lake.
