This trail leads to the discovery of several natural and human environments with their associated flora and fauna (numerous explanatory panels) and uses rural paths often bordered by stone walls.
Leaflet available in Saint-Pal-de-Chalencon: In the town hall, at the "Friends of Saint-Pal" office and at the OTI tourism info point.
The route, well marked, leaves from Place Bertrand de Chalancon, in front of the “Friends of St Pal” premises and returns to St Pal by making a loop of approximately 8 km of easy walking.
The crossing of the various hamlets shows the small rural heritage still well preserved with crosses, wells, bachas, estreux or work (device used to shoe cows), washhouses and traditional old habitats.
We walk sometimes in an open agricultural environment with pastures and crops that vary according to the seasons and sometimes in a medium or high forest environment.
The "Chier Marty" (St-Martin rock) is a large granite rock where legend wants to see the footprints of the mule of Saint Martin. Explanatory panels allow the discovery of Neolithic polishers still clearly visible among the many breaks that break the surface of the slab. Neolithic men came there, polishing their stone axes and adzes.
Another panel marked "sphagnum" leads to the discovery of this special moss, survivor of the ice ages whose accumulation gives peat. This tiny local bog will invite you to see the large bog housed in the crater of Mont Bar in Allègre. Thanks to these bogs, we can know the climate of the last 15000 years.
