Musée des Sapeurs Pompiers de la Loire

Isn't it curious to find a museum in Firminy because of the importance of its collection on firefighters? Two centuries of history on the men of fire await you, a detour is essential!
Hand or steam pump, horse-drawn pump from 1877 to 1960, more than 150 fire engines from all eras, a permanent exhibition on the attack on the World-Trade Center, which should not be forgotten, in homage to the American Firefighters and civilians who died during this sad period of our time. The Museum received as a donation two vehicles from the PARIS Fire Brigade. In 2022, after many years of hope, the museum will finally be able to offer its visitors, a Loire vehicle dating from 1921. In fact, in partnership with the town of PELUSSIN and the fire brigade of this town, a ROSALIE type pumper from 1921 will be the highlight of the 2022 exhibition.

Anecdotes, stories about the men of the fire down to the smallest details…nothing will be spared you by the inexhaustible and passionate guides of this astonishing museum.

Don't miss the museum's little gems: the first electric-powered firefighter vehicle dating from 1900 and the 1/24th scale model of the Dieppe Barracks, made from cardboard and newspaper; this unique piece, made according to the official plans of the builders, is only visible in Firminy, and was given to the Museum by its author, honorary president of the Museum, who unfortunately passed away in 2018, aged 92 .

Tips and Suggestions

Included in the Saint-Etienne City Card

We fell in love with the 1/24th scale model of the Dieppe Barracks, made of cardboard and newsprint (unique piece).
We can discover on this model machines of the time made according to the official plans of the manufacturers. The latest achievement dates from 2011, it concerns the 45 m ladder of the PARIS Fire Regiment (1945) it was built by Mr SARDINE, 91 years old. An achievement to see without moderation.
Models of equipment used by the firefighters of PARIS, are presented to the public in new windows. Note the first fire engine with electric traction dating from 1900.

Sustainable tourism

The lighting of the various windows is provided by Leeds, to which lighting timers are assigned. Lit only in the presence of the public by the simple presence in front of the windows.
