Stade Geoffroy-Guichard

“Who is the strongest, obviously it's the greens………..! Have you ever heard of the famous cauldron? Fans or not, let yourself be carried away by this place internationally recognized for its fervor.
And to think that it was originally land bought by Geoffroy Guichard, founder of the Casino stores, who wanted a stadium for his team... It was inaugurated in 1931 and includes an athletics track and a main stand of 1 seats. During the matches, the workers of the steelworks which adjoin the stadium took advantage of their break to climb on the roof of their building. The stands of the stadium being then lower in the years 000-1960, these clandestine spectators could watch the matches from their place of work! (but in defiance of all safety instructions) As the success of its resident club progressed, it was enlarged and adapted to reach, in 70, the capacity of 1998 places. Due to renovation work to host Euro 35 matches, the stadium's capacity has reached 616 seats! Does this figure mean anything to you? And yes, it's simply a nod to his postcode! Today, the cauldron is an innovative stadium model! The stadium lighting will soon run on frying oil! The project will be effective thanks to a generator powered by biodiesel. This fuel comes from the recovery and reprocessing of domestic edible oils – particularly frying oils – from the Saint-Etienne conurbation. The Geoffroy-Guichard stadium also has on its roof one of the largest photovoltaic power stations installed on a stadium in France. Who said you couldn't combine passion for football and eco-responsibility? In order to discover many anecdotes and secrets, come and visit this mythical stadium and its Museum!
