Village de Chambles

Located in the middle of the Loire gorges, on the left bank of the river, the commune of Chambles is one of the most famous and attractive sites in the area. This small town has managed to preserve its feudal character which gives it all its originality.
Overlooking the Loire gorges, the village of Chambles enjoys a remarkable geographical location and an exceptional panorama.
Chambles is made up of numerous hamlets where farms and main residences of city dwellers in search of clean air and space coexist.
For some etymologists, the name Chambles comes from the Latin “calma”. For others, it comes from “campus belli” which means war field. The site consists of the Tour de Chambles and the Château d'Essalois built in 1580.
