On the road that leads to the dam, you discover at the bend of a bend, the island of Grangent with its tower and its chapel, today a private residence.
Below the road stands the tower, the fortress and the chapel of Grangent.
Since the dam was filled in the late 60s, these buildings have been located on an elongated island in the middle of the winding gorges. When they were built, around the year 800, this island was in reality a promontory which rose about fifty meters above the river!
In the Middle Ages, the castle underwent destruction, reconstruction, and several restorations.
The latter was listed in October 1945 in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments then the entire site, consisting of the tower and its surroundings, was listed in March 1946. The castle is today private property.
