From the Montpré orientation table in Saint-André-de-Chalencon, you can see the entire chain of Velay volcanoes.
A breathtaking 180° view! From the Devès mountains in the west to the Meygal mountains in the east, it is a real succession of bumps, peaks and juices that are offered to your eyes. The most massive, because the closest, are the Monts de Miaune and Chaumont, but also Mont Gerbizon and especially the Plateau de la Madeleine. The latter challenges by its form. A veritable “cheese platter”, a volcano leveled in its mass, this shape is the one that most fascinates the observer. By rotating to the north, weather permitting, you can see the Livradois-Forez massif appear.
Location details
From the Place de la Mairie, follow the D29 for 50 meters towards Saint-Pal-en-Chalencon. Continue straight, leaving the D29 on the right by the municipal road towards the Prades and Montpré stadium. At the so-called "Trives" cross, follow the small road to the right. 200 meters further on, continue straight ahead, ignoring the road going to the right. After a long climb, you will reach the village of Montpré in Saint-André-de-Chalencon. Bypass the farm bordering the road by a hairpin, turning first to the right then to the left in the direction of Vacherolles. At the top of the ridge, the Montpré orientation table is located on the left. Access by the small dirt road.
