In the spring, Lionel Ciochetto had set himself a great challenge with some mountain biker friends: to ride the mountain bike route “between Loire and forests” a little fitted out in one day (140 km all the same!).

Here he goes from the town of Les Villettes, with his group of friends with their mountain bikes and all the paraphernalia for a great day.
NB: This circuit is initially covered in 2 or 3 days (departures are also possible in the towns of Monistrol-sur-Loire, Beauzac, The Chapel of Aurec, Sainte-Sigolene et Saint-Pal-de-Mons).

The story of his mountain bike route:

After a descent to Pont de Lignon then an ascent from Confolent, we took a few paths from the Beauzacois basket trail to warm up before the steep climb to Grand Champ, which allowed us to slip into the valley of the 'ance. After a detour via Ancette then via the Bloue valley, we took the ascent to Montméat, then Thézenac, taking the paths of the Rochebaron trail. The first refueling took place in a majestic setting: the Château de Rochebaron.

After skirting the banks of the Loire, we reached Cheucle, Chambon-sur-Loire and then the town of Chapelle-d'Aurec. The return to Monistrol-sur-Loire was made from Praisles. The 2nd refueling was very generous, at a friend's in Grangevallat. After the digestion phase, we embarked on the paths of the Vellave Challenge to reach the woods of Sainte-Sigolène. Then we descended towards the Gorges de la Dunière. A new break at the chapel of Laval allowed us to regain strength before the climb to Villedemont. The last refueling took place in Terrières, around 17 p.m. We ended our circuit with a loop around Sainte-Sigolène then, with a final flight over the Gorges du Lignon until we arrived at the bell tower of Les Villettes. Despite the aches and sunburns, this is how this beautiful mountain bike journey with friends ends! »

About Celine

Hiker, epicurean, I like to share my passion for the Gorges de la Loire and the Haute-Loire and I gladly reveal my tips and tricks to my friends and of course to the holidaymakers I meet at the Tourist Office. My favourites: the views of the volcanoes and the Loire gorges.
