We jump on the first train towards the Haute-Loire, bag on our back and walking shoes on our feet and we're off to try a stage of the Grande Randonnée path on foot!
The strong point of the GR3
- The train: access by ecological and very practical train just 1 hour 15 minutes from Lyon and 45 minutes from Puy-en-Velay! The line is superb and contributes greatly to the beauty of the getaway!

A stage from Retournac to Confolent (Beauzac)
- Take the train from Lyon, Saint-Etienne or Puy-en-Velay and get off at Retournac station.
- Take the GR 302 on the right bank of the river (red and white markings) and walk from hamlet to hamlet until the bridge over the Loire at Vaures (Beauzac).
- Continue in the countryside towards Pont de Lignon.
- From there, follow the connection to Confolent and its “tiny little station” located in the pampas!
- Return to your home by train.
